A short story I wrote on 28th of August'2008 after I was out of a troublesome situation.
She was walking on the side walk with immense zeal; she was enthusiastic but…..
Suddenly, a strong breeze started blowing. The dried fallen leaves wildly flew and smacked her body. It was all dark everywhere as there were no stars to enlighten her path...Sky was covered with clouds all around. She was tired now. But the strong zephyr had made her walk easier; she was freely flowing with it, as if without any effort.
It was the longest walk ever. She could not even remember exactly how long she had been walking now...No stars meant she could not even keep track of time. She used to be afraid of darkness when she was a child. But then life had given her enough obscurity, at such a tender age that now it did not matter whether it was dusk or dawn. All she had to do was carry on.
The sound of the leaves crumbling and brushing against each other was the music she was used to hearing. Dry leaves paved her path. She herself was her only companion today. The wind grew stronger and stronger and the night grew darker. She had to tie her hair to prevent them from strongly brushing against her face.
And she didn’t know how long she had to saunter to reach her distant destination. It seemed like eternity. But she had still not lost the will. The sensation of triumph got her going on and on. It was her duty and she had to manage it, all alone. And now, with nature playing the villion's part, she had no one to succumb to.
It started raining. But she could not afford the shade of the trees on the way...She had to move on, and on. With adversity, by her side and all odds accompanying her, she could not even acknowledge the ray of hope that was striving inside her since she had begun.
She could now see her destination. Her body spiraled down on the rough surface. She exhaled a weary breath.
She had reached.
