There was a rush again; nurse slammed the operating room’s door behind him. He caught a glimpse of her pale face and shuddering body. The hair she had curled for the special night had been tangled and messed up with blood and perspiration. He came closer to the little glass window on the door and looked intently at her. Her eyes were closed and nobody could tell him if they will ever open again. Her mouth was open; there was a flare of disappointment on her face. Saliva was streaming from the corner of her lips going all the way to her beautiful neck. He could see her Adams apple bulging out. The engorge in her veins was very visible. He felt guilty, tears rolled down his cheeks.
With just her and the night on his mind, he started walking regardless of his destiny. He was culpable of what she was going through. It was his fault. Her voice echoed in his ears, “STOP!! SLOW DOWN!! WE ARE GOING TO DIE”. He shrugged. He didn’t even remember how fast he was driving that night and the loud music along with the tapping of the rain on the roof had made Anna’s voice muffled. He was oblivious of what was ahead of them; otherwise he would have controlled his emotions but were they so bad? “No”, he thought. Their parents had officially agreed to their wedding and the friends had thrown a big party for them. At that night enthusiasm was inevitable. He tried to picture the party; her smiling face had put his thoughts at a halt. He couldn’t think shit after her thoughts. She was elated that night. He remembered holding her hands when she had said, “Hold on to me like this forever and I don’t want the forever to end ever”.
He raised his hand to his forehead and rubbed it against it. He could still feel the touch of her head on his shoulder. The warmth and scent of her was still flickering around him. He remembered stroking her hair when they sat in silence at the bay before the drive. Under the full light of moon, he had seen her jump and play in the water. He gazed at her for long when she let the waves wash her feet. Happiness was pouring out from every action and expression of her. At that moment he had thought, this was all he wanted from life. He had dreamed of lovely mornings with her. He had always planned how she would bring him hot coffee with cinnamon rolls in the bed and then they would snuggle up in the blanket and chat before beginning the day.
“WE WILL DIE DAMNIT!! STOP”, her voice reverberated once again, almost wounding his eardrum. He pulled his hair in woe and bent down to sit on the sand. The waves soaked his clothes in minutes. “That’s how long it takes to lose a life”, he thought. He caressed the sand and closed eyes. He could still depict their first meeting at the same beach. They used to come there for jogging but never talked until June 10th, 2007 when she had asked him to help find her dog, Lisa, who had run somewhere. They never found the dog but each other. It was surprising how they shared so many hobbies. Both of them loved skydiving, waterskiing and snowboarding. He remembered how she always closed her eyes tightly before they skated down the hill. He reminisced holding on her shoulder during the snowboarding. It had always been fun for both of them. He wished that he had slowed down the car and prevented the accident but it wasn’t in his hand anymore. He truly desired that instead of her he had fallen in the lake after their car hit the fence but he could just yearn…
The deafening noise of the ocean distracted his meditation, He glared at his cellphone’s LCD, and there were 4 missed calls. He shook all the wandering thoughts and headed towards the hospital. While passing by the hallways, he realized how difficult it is to lose someone you love. How excruciating it is to see them in pain. He was still lost in the hurricane of his thoughts when he reached room # 103. He intently looked at her face. It had not changed a bit. The pale complexion had sucked the life out of her. It seemed that she had no blood left inside of her. She drew a deep breath and sat beside her. He knew she couldn’t listen to him but he still whispered in her ear, “You know how much we love each other. Only death could do us apart and that too for a few moments because we will be in heaven together”. She didn’t move. He held her hand in his and squeezed it a bit, trying to bring her to life but it didn’t do any good.
Tears stung his eyes but he didn’t wipe them off instead he let them flow on her arms. The old sleeping beauty tale struck his mind and he thought maybe giving her a gentle kiss would bring her back but then he pushed the thought away, after all it was real life not a freaking fairytale. “But still…,” he murmered to himself. He lowered down his upper body and gently kissed on her dry lips. She moaned. He pulled himself back and looked at her eyes which were slowly opening, her lips moved a little. He couldn’t believe his eyes. It was a miracle but miracles do happen when the love is true and chaste. She raised her hand and tried to reach him but couldn’t. He came closer to her; her heartbeat was audible, he could hear her wobbly breathe. She tried to say something and he stopped her by a mild kiss once again. After a long dark night, the beautiful sun had embraced their happiness…It was the crack of the dawn…A lovely life painted with bright hues of love and romance was ahead of them…

She lived? What the hell! :P
Yeah, she did. This is the lamest end of the story in my point of view!
I'm sorry, but as sentimental and well-written the story was, my mind just stopped with the whole 'beatiful' thing the moment I read the words bulging adam's apple. Honey, there's a reason it's called the adams apple ;)
But good one, really!
UGH! I hate being a grammar and spelling freak - I misspelled beautiful. OCD.
Thank you and pardon me but I didn't understand what you meant!
Well, an Adams apple is a masculine feature, right? Some women, though very few, do have an adams apple, but it's not really a symbol of feminine beauty - much less a bulging one :)
Usually you associate an adams apple with a burly, rugged man.
Hope you don't take offense to my criticism.
I'll read it ASAP (:
P.S. When is your bday?
Absar, no offense taken and I had no clue about that. It's weird because I have seen and read in books about adams apple of women. Could be my mistake. Thanks for pointing it out though!
@momal sure, whenever you want! My birthday is June 10th! :D
Aww, cuteness! I like happy endings, even if fairy tale-ish! :)
Siras, Thank you :] I like happy endings but they don't seem real! :(
At moments, they don't seem real to me either!
But I'm that hopeless person who keeps believing in happy endings, even if I may say that I don't!
this has gently added to the colors of my dreams.
yes it is not really always a fairy tale.
i have my hopes :)
beautiful narration Komal!
Siras, happens. A part of me hopes of happy endings too but they seem so strange to me!
Seher, a big Thank YOU :]
I am honored to add some of my colors to your dreams. "Don't lose hope", someone said.
Sometimes happy endings are awesome. :D
They're unreal. And that's why they're called miracles. =[=
I don't think I blinked while reading that.
(Y)
You know... my bday is also coming (;
And reading this post... that's still pending ):
I read it. I read it. I read it. Hehe.
Aaawwww... a happy ending... Yippee :P :P
Your stories remind me of Sweet Dreams... (:
Ugly duckling!
Yeah...sometimes! Thank you :]
Momal, glad that you read it. Thanks so much for the praise :]
